In this blog, I discuss applications of data science in the insurance industry.

I am a statistician and fully qualified actuary with more than 15 years of experience. My expertise covers a range of actuarial topics, data science and their strategic application in insurance companies.

I have previously worked for large consultancy firms and insurance multinationals in a variety of roles.  Since founding datadriven.ie, I have helped companies of all sizes, ranging from small start ups to very large organisations in insurance, banking, fund management and consulting in Europe, Asia and the US.

I am the Chair of the data analytics group in the Society of Actuaries in Ireland and I represent the Society at the International Actuarial Association’s Big Data Working Group and other data science events in the Actuarial Profession.  In addition, I am also an active participant of data science groups such as as Dublin R and Machine Learning Dublin.  I am an organiser of Dublin Data Science and Dublin Julia Users and I am also a co-founder of the Dublin Insurance Data Analytics Community.

My vision is to help insurance companies make the best use of their data by adopting data science. My statistical and actuarial background enable me to identify how data science can help insurance companies achieve their business goals. I help insurers design a data science strategy that supports their business plan, I build predictive models and help set up data science teams.
