In this blog, I discuss applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning in insurance.

While my background is in statistics and operations research, most of my work has been as an actuary.  I have worked in insurance and data science for more than 20 years, half of which have been on consulting, providing advice to insurers. My experience includes life insurance as well as general insurance (P&C)

I have worked in companies of varied sizes, ranging from a handful of employees to large multinationals with operations all over the world. Previous roles include being capital actuary for a domestic insurer, and head of actuarial for a large Irish professional services firm.

I was Chair of the Data Science Committee of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland for several years, and I am co-founder of the Dublin Data Science MeetUp. In addition, I was a member of EIOPA’s Consultative Expert Group in Digital Ethics, where I was Chair of the Governance working group.
